The Moving Company

By: Miranda Prowse

I’ve been dancing for over 10 years, and when I got to college, I knew I wanted to keep dancing. However, the pandemic and a recent knee surgery had other plans. During my sophomore year, I joined the Moving Company, and immediately fell in love with the organization. The Moving Company is a student led dance organization at IUPUI. I knew I wanted to take on more responsibility, so the following year, I ran for Secretary—and I got the position!

As Secretary during my junior year, I handled a variety of responsibilities, including taking attendance, acting as risk manager, and managing all necessary forms for the dancers. I loved the work, but I knew I was ready for a new challenge. I wanted to push myself further and take my skills to the next level. So, I decided to run for Historian for my senior year, a role that would allow me to use my creativity as the "graphic designer" for the group.

As Historian, I became responsible for all things visual and social media-related, including creating graphics for our shows, social media posts, flyers, and programs. I also took on the task of organizing photoshoots for the dancers to capture and showcase our moments. But the biggest challenge came when our school underwent a significant change: IUPUI was separating into two distinct institutions, Indiana University Indianapolis and Purdue University Indianapolis. With this change came the need for a new identity.

As part of this transformation, I was given the responsibility of redesigning the organization’s logo. I created a new logo that not only reflected the shift in the school’s identity but also modernized the look to give it a cleaner, more contemporary feel. This new design helped refresh the organization’s visual presence and aligned with its evolving image. I’m incredibly proud to have contributed to such a meaningful change for the organization. It was an experience that allowed me to grow not only as a dancer but also as a designer and leader within the community.

Winter Showcase

The Winter Showcase marks the debut MoCo Show of the season, featuring a collection of dances choreographed and practiced throughout the Fall semester. For this event, I designed the program used during the show, organized a photoshoot for the dancers, and created an engaging Instagram countdown to build excitement in the lead-up to the performance.

Student Choreography Showcase

One of the most favorite times of the year is the Student Choreography Showcase. Every year dancers in MOCO have the opportunity to create their own pieces, including their own choreography and costumes. This is also a great way to showcase different styles the org can do.

Spring Showcase

The last show of the year is the Spring Showcase. This show is a culmination of all of the dances we had danced that year and wraps them up with a bow. This is a big momement for our seniors especially. For the 2024 Spring Showcase, the theme was Metamorphosis.
